"IN PHOTOGRAPHY THERE IS A REALITY SO SUBTLE THAT IT BECOMES MORE REAL THAN REALITY."

ALFRED STIEGLITZ

LIVING GEOMETRY AN INTRODUCTION

In these images Tom O'Connor demonstrates how he uses the camera lens to transform the metropolis into Living Geometry.

O'Connor has created a photographed collection that are tied together by explaining the relationships between life and pattern. These photographs are from different city locations, but each expresses beauty in the elements of form and pattern revealed in black and white or colour.

Plunging lines, startling trapezoids and bold patterns are pursued from precipitous vantage points. Human and life figures are apprehended through their relationship or scale in the urban setting.

O'Connor's work challenges us to examine these cities from an unusual view where windows can become dark polyhedrons penetrating the smooth light surface and people appear as insects within the structured matrix.

Whether the location is the modernist Manhattan interior of the Guggenheim Museum or the historic panorama of Florence; life among geometry is apparent.
